It Is Appointed Unto Men to Die Once

This rich man’s story was written a long time ago, and that rich man is still present in hell to this very day. Every time this story is told is a fresh moment, but that rich man continues suffering there in his everlasting torment during all the in-between moments when no one is freshly reading about his story. Hell is ever lasting to ever lasting. Is it worth the risk? He didn’t believe the warnings either…

The rich man and the beggar:

There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham said unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

Luke 16:19-31

What does this story reveal about hell?

  • That it is a real place.
  • That you are consciously aware there.
  • That you are very uncomfortable there.
  • That you are aware of people in heaven there.
  • That you thirst.
  • That it is earned.
  • That you don’t have to go there. It was a choice made in life… and that you are warned during life and that in order to not go there, you have to listen to the messengers sent during your life.
  • Once you die: it is too late. You can’t change your fate and you can’t save other people after you die. The distance is fixed and closed. Jesus is the only way to heaven.

One response to “It Is Appointed Unto Men to Die Once”

  1. […] All people must come to a place where they are broken enough to realize their condition, turn to the Lord and so be saved. Sin will always reap destruction, and once we get a grip on this truth, we have no choice but to either choose life or death. Not choosing is still a choice. […]
