Why Do I Care About Sin?

Sin is an offense to us as well as to God. Whether you see it or not we are all offended by sin, especially when it is done to us. This is when it is very clear. We may not believe in God, but there is no denying sins against us. So you do care about it because it is an offense to your very nature, and our inner man often demands some form of justice

Taking this into account, let’s look at the implications of this on a greater level.  We are all created in the image and likeness of God; so in this sense these transgressions are against His nature in us, and there must needs be a retribution. These crimes we commit against others and others against us need a payment. This is why you care about sin.

Once you come to a place where you’ve done some fairly horrible things in your life you will carry around in your conscience the burden of knowing you did something you may not be able to forgive yourself for. Or someone else may have done something horrible to you of which you are not able to forgive them for. These two factors in your life can hinder you on the path and cause years of distress and heartache. You care because there is a price to pay and either way, whether you are the perpetrator or the victim you will never be free until the debt has been truly reconciled.

And this is where the Gospel comes into play.
