Born Again

If I were to ask you how well you knew your way around your own home, you’d probably respond, “Very well, thanks.” But, what if I were to blindfold you and set you somewhere in your space? Would you be so sure then? I’m guessing not. This is what it is like being a Christian without being born again. Sure, you may know your bible, you may understand some of the truth it contains, but you can still be blind to the true message of salvation and not be living in the Spirit and truth.

First, it is stated that a “man must be born again, to SEE the kingdom of God.” In essence, in order to truly find your way around your own home, you must take the blindfold off.  You need spiritual eyes in order to see your true condition and do something about it. Second, it is stated that, “except a man be born of water and Spirit, he cannot ENTER the kingdom of God.” The water in this case is the baptism of repentance, which is what you do when you see the contrast between God’s perfect will for your life and the life you’ve been wasting in your own will. By being baptized you acknowledge and put to death your sin nature. The Spirit in this case is what you receive inwardly when you, first of all come to Jesus, and secondly believe on Him for salvation.

Being born again in this way, gives you the promise of salvation. The very Holy Spirit is the seal of this promise. Once you are sealed in this way, you are born again. Then you will understand what Jesus told the woman at the well, “The true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth…” The Holy Spirit in you worships the Father through you and leads you into all truth (The Holy Spirit only comes into you after you are born again). Jesus said that He is the “way, the TRUTH, and the life.” The truth in life is found in Him alone, and the only way you can see this is to be born again.

It’s sort of a catch 22, in order to see: you must be born again. Yet… in order to be born again you must see that you need a savior and that the scriptures are true. To the world this is foolishness.

God in His infinite wisdom gave us the promise of salvation through the simple act of believing on Him.

How do we come to believe? By receiving His word. Receiving His word means you accept His word as authoritative or true.

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”

John 6:63

Jesus said this to illustrate the power of His word, and the effect it would have on those who would simply receive and believe. So we are here to preach to you the very Word of God, that by it you may be born again and be saved.

“How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”

And how shall they preach, except they be sent? As it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Romans 10:14-15

One response to “Born Again”

  1. […] Quite simply the second death is the eternal lake of fire. Anyone who has not received salvation through Jesus is headed there as a result of the corruption of the sin nature in their lives. It is written, “The wages of sin is death…” therefore we all face the first death, for, “all have sinned and come short…”  In order to be found in the “Lamb’s book of life”, we must be born again.
